An inductive hour meter is a sealed, waterproof, and battery-powered device designed to track engine runtime for maintenance. It requires no direct electrical connection; it functions by wrapping a sensor wire around a spark plug wire, picking up electrical pulses to record hours and often RPM.

Installation: Extremely simple; the sensor wire wraps around the spark plug wire 5+ times, requiring no cutting or complex wiring.
Operation: Automatically senses engine ignition pulses to begin recording, typically displaying an hourglass icon while active.
Power Source: Usually features an internal, non-replaceable battery with a long lifespan (often 10+ years or ~20,000+ hours).
Display & Data: Features an LCD screen, often showing total accumulated runtime (non-resettable) up to 9,999.9 or 99,999 hours. Some models include resettable trip meters (TM1/TM2) for tracking specific maintenance intervals.
Applications: Ideal for small 2-stroke or 4-stroke gasoline engines, including motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, generators, and lawnmowers.
Durability: Typically epoxy-encapsulated for protection against water, shock, and high heat (often up to 85°C).
Extra Features: Many models also act as tachometers, displaying real-time engine RPM.
